Philadelphia Eagles NFL standout cornerback Troy Vincent earns his living being stingy to wide receivers. Yet this man so gifted is also a man so generous. His motorcycle drag racing venture Team 23 features talented riders Antron Brown and Tony Mullen, and worthy crew who travel and race from two deluxe tractor-trailers. Troy was also generous with his time when I asked him for an interview. Have a seat beside Troy Vincent outside his magnificent bus and learn why this gifted man has so much to give. Listen as Troy is also generous with many good words.

What ethic, what plan do you stress to your employees to get the most out of your organization?

"First you have make sure you have fun. Don't worry about what others are doing. You can only control your own destiny. Be focused only on your task. Concentrate on racing, not the guy in the other lane. Also…A team that prays together stays together. I ask them to wear the team colors, teal, purple, and yellow. We all have to think alike. I don't walk into the trailer and tell them what to do. I'm a part of a great group of people in the racing world."

Troy's Team 23: Antron Brown, Tony Mullen, Harry Lartigue, Mark Peiser

I carry a lot over from football. You don't lose your job because you don't go fast down the track. You learn from losing. Stay focused. It's a blessing to be able to do what you want and get paid for it.

"Street bikes. Racing in the street."

When do you sleep well?

"On an airplane the day before a game. That's Saturday afternoon about 3 PM for about three hours. The preparation is done. I've played the game mentally. I know the outcome. It's just getting there and playing the game. I'm relaxed."

"Evaluate each individual separately. Deal with each individual. I meet many different people every day. I'm a good judge of people. I know who has an ulterior motive. The light will always shine. I'll give you the rope, and I'll let you pull the rope together, or hang yourself. I have no enemies."

What personal attribute that you know you possess, would you want to pass on to others?

"Gift of giving. Either you have it or you don't. Giving is not money. Often time or a little love is all you need to give. Money is a quick fix. Sometimes a man doesn't need a gift of a dollar, sometimes he only needs a dime."

"My kids."

How do you balance the NFL and the NHRA?

"I'm part of the NHRA tour. The NFL is my occupation. My months off are from March to July. Racing is a hobby. It won't pay my mortgage. When I'm at the NFL the NHRA doesn't exist. One's a job. One's a hobby. "

Your personal speed is legendary. Your Team23 speed is incredible too. Is speed your favorite thing?

Do your long-range plans include an expansion of Team 23 Racing?

"It has come to mind several times. I've considered maybe another bike or a Top Fuel Dragster. I've had many conversations about this, but I love motorcycles."

Additional Comments?

"To anger a man is to conquer him. I have a sign in my office…a parable…If you want your eggs hatched, you must sit on them yourself."

More Additional Comments:

"It's lonely at the top. Everybody wants to be at your dinner table when you are winning, but it will become empty when you lose. You can go from hero to zero overnight. You're only as good as you last pass, your last play. I'm blessed but I must stay humble. When I'm buried, they are not going to bury this bus with me. Stay humble."

Interviewing Troy Vincent was like sifting through treasure, but knowing I had to find an adjective to fit this swift and solid human was intimidating. Troy has many attributes he applies well to life that to describe a successful union of so many physical and mental skills and condense that to one word…a difficult task. Gary listened intently to every word from Troy, and wanted to select 'giver'. I liked that word too, but it doesn't include any meaning of speed. I also wanted to seek a word that pointed to the top, just like Troy has reached. Gary agreed…Troy Vincent is…
