The Worlds Quickest Harley. Again!
Ray Price Racing opens 2010 AMA Dragbike season with historic quickest run and win in Funny Bike
While the first official race for the team was the weekend prior at Orlando Speedworld for the 2010 AHDRA season opener, the dismal weather and challenging track conditions prevented the team from what should have been a steller performance. With qualifying called off due to rain and positions set for eliminations based on ’09 points, the team still ran a 6.636 ET in second round action then gracefully bowed out after spinning the tire in the semi finals.
The team of Ray Price, Jeremy Hoy, Justin Heinle, Mark Morgan and Joey Sternotti began preparing the 1,000 horsepower Ray Price Harley-Davidson sponsored drag bike for the AMA Bikeweek Nationals at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta Georgia.
Pulling the drag bike right out of the box for its first qualifying pass on Saturday the team posted a 6.406 ET at 222.69 MPH. With things looking right where they wanted them the team headed back to the pits to prepare for round two of qualifying. It was while warming the bike up for round two they broke a rocker arm causing the team to miss the second round of qualifying. The team pulled together and brought out a new spare motor and worked feverishly to get it prepared in time to make the final round of qualifying.
In typical Ray Price fashion the team came back with a vengeance and did the unexpected. Sternotti twisted the wick on the Ray Price owned nitro Harley drag bike to post an incredible 6.141 ET at 231.04 MPH! That’s 3/1000 quicker than what the team ran back at this same track in November 2009.
In the first round of eliminations on Sunday luck was on the teams side when Ron Maddox broke at the line and even though the Ray Price Nitro Harley Drag Bike spun the tire, Sternotti was still able to cross the finish line to move into the next round. Then in round two the team ran a by run posting a 6.377 ET at 229.27 MPH.
In the semis the Ray Price Harley-Davidson sponsored drag bike continued to perform well putting down a 6.251 ET at 225.22 MPH against Keith Lynn. In the finals Sternotti captured a convincing win against Travis Davis running at 6.383 ET at 224.58 MPH to take the team to the winners circle.
“Price says that hopefully that this race and the times posted will be an indication of what the Ray Price Nitro Harley Race Team will be able to deliver during the 2010 race season”.
The team heads to Belle Rose, LA for the second race of the AHDRA 2010 season for the Cajun Nitro Nationals March 27th and 28th, 2010.
